Variable Star Photometry with a DSLR Camera

Presentation by Mark Blackford at the VSS Symposium 3 at RASNZ Conference 2014

Pros and cons of using DSLR cameras for photometry of variable stars are discussed. Basic equipment selection and configuration, as well as more advanced topics are covered. Several cases studies are presented to illustrate the concepts. The problems of differential extinction and transformation are discussed and a simple solution presented. The procedures currently employed by the author were described in the workshop but not fully captured in the PowerPoint presentation. The workshop concluded with a discussion of problems encountered by the author and general comments/questions from participants.
